Differences in Coffee Brewing Methods According to Different Countries
- Turkish coffee: Turkish coffee is made using finely ground coffee beans and a cezve, a small copper or brass pot. First, measure the coffee and water in a ratio of 1:2, and mix them together in the cezve. Then, heat the mixture on low heat until it starts to froth. Pour the froth into a cup and repeat until the cezve is empty. Turkish coffee is usually served with a glass of water.
- Italian coffee: Italian coffee is made using an espresso machine. Start by grinding the coffee beans and filling the portafilter with the ground coffee. Tamp the coffee down with a tamper and attach the portafilter to the espresso machine. Turn the machine on and wait for the coffee to be extracted. Italian coffee is typically served in small cups and can be consumed as is or used as a base for other coffee drinks like cappuccinos and lattes.
- French coffee: French coffee, or café au lait, is made using a French press. Start by heating water to around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, add coarsely ground coffee to the French press, and pour hot water over the coffee. Let it steep for 3-4 minutes before pressing down on the plunger to separate the coffee grounds from the liquid. Finally, pour the coffee into a cup and add heated milk to taste.
- Vietnamese coffee: Vietnamese coffee is made using a phin filter, a small metal drip filter. Begin by adding 1-2 tablespoons of finely ground coffee to the phin filter. Then, add hot water and wait for the coffee to drip through the filter into a cup. Vietnamese coffee is often served with sweetened condensed milk, which can be added to the coffee before or after brewing.
- American coffee: American coffee is typically made using a drip coffee maker. Start by adding ground coffee to a paper filter in the coffee maker. Then, add water to the reservoir and turn on the machine. Wait for the coffee to drip through the filter and into a carafe. American coffee can be served black or with milk and sugar to taste.
These are just a few examples of the different ways coffee is brewed around the world. Each country has its own unique coffee culture and methods of preparation, making coffee an incredibly diverse and fascinating beverage.
